The Steel-High Rollers beat Delone Catholic earlier this year when the two teams faced off in the regular season but that means nothing come playoff time. The Rollers could not pull of a repeat performance losing 39-27 last Friday in the semi finals of the District III 2A playoffs.
The Rollers were already facing an uphill battle having to play without star RB Odelll Greene and losing Kavale Davenport in the first half due to a concussion didn’t help. The injury to Davenport forced Mehki Flowers to move from WR to RB. The Rollers also had two pivotal turnovers on plays where the referees made QB Niles Jones come off the field for not having his mouth piece in.
Joe Hernandez of Delone Catholic finished with 109 yard rushing on 18 carries, and had a crucial late interception on defense. For the Rollers, Niles Jones threw for 172 yards and ran for 140 on 27 carries. Star WR Mehki Flowers only played one half at wide receiver before moving to Runningback after the Rollers Kavale Davenport left the game with a concussion but finished with 67 yards receiving on three catches and 49 total yards on 10 carries.
Good luck to Delone Catholic in the next round and with Mehki Flowers, Odelll Greene and few other key starters returning next year for Steelton, they should be just as electrifying as a team to watch next year!
