It was good while it lasted, The new year has just begun and we already have our first viral internet trend in the making, the #SelfieOlympics.
Taking inspiration from 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia, users on Twitter and Instagram have lit the torch on the #SelfieOlympics; for the sake of safety hopefully not literally.
Yes, you read that right, and yes it is exactly what you are thinking it is. It’s simple really. Take a badass selfie that will blow everyone’s mind and slap that hashtag on it. Then wait to get retweeted and shared all over the Internet.
Unfortunately, the #SelfieOlympics are being banned across all social networks after a teen attempted to hang upside down from his bathroom door and landed on his neck.
The 18 year olds mother found him lying on the ground by his bathroom door nearly naked with his instagram app open. He had successfully taken the picture but….it didnt end well, nor get uploaded by the teen. His mother states:
“the attempt was well crafted and I commend my son for that but I just wish he would have planned it safely, he is my son and I miss him dearly.
Many tweeters are paying homage to the Selfie Olympian by reposting his image with “R.I.P Selfie Gawd” and “The Michael Jordan of Selfies”.
We wish his family the best, no information on when his services will be yet, but we have gotten word there will be a live feed provided by instagram. In respect, check out some other great #selfieolympic submissions below.
