According to digital security firm Irdeto, an estimated 2.9 million people illegally streamed the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight last Saturday. The numbers that were seen on the illegal streaming circuit for the event have made the super fight one of the most pirated — perhaps, even the most — pirated boxing matches in history. Although the event was marketed as the biggest event in combat sports history, many did not believe it was worth the $100 USD pay-per-view price utilizing illegal means to watch the fight. Alongside typical pirate-streaming sites and streaming devices, social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitch and Periscope, hosted many illegal streams despite respective efforts to shut down the viewing.
