We may have uncovered why there’s such an overcrowding problem in China, as thirty-seven people have been arrested in connection with a fake condom production ring, according to China Daily.
The state-run newspaper alleges more than 4.6 million fake condoms, worth around 47.7 million yuan ($7.8 million), were seized in raids across Central China.
One raid alone produced over 2 million fake condoms that were confiscated form a single workshop.
If you can make it, China will fake it, as the fake condoms are sold for a fraction of the price as brand name condoms.
A Chinese equivalent to Amazon, taobao.com, was found selling the fake condoms for 1 yuan, which is about 16 cents, as the counterfeit condoms reportedly cost less than 0.2 cents to make.
I’m not sure about you, but I’m not risking disease and pregnancy on a contraceptive worth a fifth of a penny.
The lucrative and dangerous industry is one that needs to be shut down, as the quality of contraceptives is not something that should be tampered with.
Don’t cheapen out with generic condoms, the conseuqences could be deadly!
