For once we’re glad a product is still in the conceptual stage. The AIRE is a breath-powered face mask that charges an iPhone developed by Joao Paulo Lammoglia in July 2011. Tiny wind turbines within the mask rely on the power of one’s breath to generate electricity that is then sent to any iOS-powered device.
Apparently, the designer of this product has no shame in asking consumers to strap on a terrifying mask in order to charge their cell phones, and neither do the smart folks at reddot who announced Lammoglia as a recipient of the redo design award in 2011. I don’t know about you, but if we saw a lady taking a jog through the park wearing an AIRE, we’d likely drop to the ground in horror. At least one thing is clear – we now know where the inspiration for Bane’s character from the Dark Knight Trilogy came from. An interesting (and, let’s face it… ridiculous) idea, that definitely made us say “Whoa!”, but we’ll stick to the good old-fashioned plug-in-the-socket method of charging for now. Or we’ll switch to the solar powered chargers. Anything else. Anything.
