Shooting at Connecticut School
State police are responding to a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, with unconfirmed reports of multiple fatalities.
Shooter Reportedly 20-Year-Old Man
Federal law enforcement official says gunman at Connecticut school was a 20-year-old man from CT carrying two handguns.
‘At Least 100 Rounds’ Fired
A parent who was at the school during the shooting said she heard “at least 100 rounds” being fired. There was a “pop pop pop” sound in the hallway, so three people went to investigate, according to Meredith Artley, but “only one person came back.”
Principal, School Psychologist Killed
The principal and school psychologist of Sandy Hook Elementary are reported dead by CNN. The school’s vice-principal was reportedly shot in the leg, but is still alive. Meredith Artley, a parent who was at the school during the shooting, tells CNN: “The principal, vice principal and the school psychologist went into the hall. Only one person came back. It was the vice principal. The vice principal was shot in the leg or foot and came crawling back from the hall.”
At least three patients have been transported to the nearby Dansbury Hospital. There still is no definitive count on the number of fatalities, but the gunman, whose body is said to have been found in a classroom, is reported dead..
