A baby was hospitalized with severe facial injuries and his mother is also recovering from bites after cops said they were viciously attacked over the weekend by the family’s dog – a pit bull-wolf hybrid.
The incident occurred in Livermore Falls, Maine, on Saturday.
The boy reportedly looked over the top of a barricade keeping the dog out of a room, when the animal suddenly bit the child’s face and pulled him over the barrier.
Police told the Lewiston Sun Journal that the town’s animal control officer had ordered the dog quarantined in the bathroom at family’s home the day before.
But on Saturday, police Lt Thomas Gould said the dog was able to grab the child by the head and maul the boy.
When his parents rushed to his aid, the boy’s mother was also attacked by the animal, suffering injuries to her arm.
The child was rushed to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, where he underwent surgery on Sunday for facial injuries.
The dog was euthanized by animal control officers who had also responded to the home after the attack.
