Forget your hybrid that gets a measly 50 miles per gallon, as Volkswagen has announced the world’s most fuel efficient car, one that gets an unbelievable 313 miles per gallon.
The Volkswagen XL1 is a plug-in hybrid that will be powered by an electric motor and battery pack coupled with a small 800cc diesel engine.
The XL1 goes from 0-62 mph in a time of 12.2 seconds, and tops out at 99 mph.
You aren’t going to purchase the XL1 for its giddy-up, however, as the fuel economy is actually unbelievable.
What does 313 mpg actually mean? One could travel 62 miles for less than a dollar of fuel.
In all-electric mode, the XL1 can go 31 miles, with zero emissions.
