A new study published by a team of Penn State University professors has determined that going to college doesn’t necessarily cause students to develop a drinking problem.
Researchers reviewed data collected from roughly 1,100 high school seniors who participated in the National Longitudinal Youth Survey way back in 1979.
These same students were surveyed again during their freshman year of college and then once more in 1994 when they were 33 years of age.
The point of the survey was to find out what the role of drugs and alcohol played in these individuals’ lives throughout these points in time. The results concluded that college enrollment does not have a direct relationship with drinking problems.
That’s probably because college drinking is officially at an all-time low, according to a report published by researchers in UCLA
Apparently, only 33% of college freshman drank beer in 2012 compared to 74% in 1982. See, this is why the older generations pity our delicate souls. We’ve got to put these numbers to shame before we all forget how to have fun like a real American should altogether.
