A teacher at a California pre-school was arrested for putting sleeping pills into her class’s drinking cups. ABC News reports that 59-year-old Debbie Grotz was caught adding an unknown substance to the 10 one and two-year-old kids in her care by a colleague at the Kiddie Academy in Morgan Hill, California.
When she was confronted by the school’s administrators, Grotz admitted that for some time, she had been lacing the kids’ juice with an over-the-counter sleeping aid called Sominex. She was immediately fired upon confessing and arrested roughly 3 days later.
Sgt. Troy Hoefling of Morgan Hill Investigations Unit told reporters, “We do not know the quantity, but we believe she was breaking the pill into smaller pieces and putting it into the children’s Sippy cups.”
Hoefling also said that administrators may have inadvertently washed some useful evidence away by cleaning out the cups in her former classroom.
Grotz was charged with two counts of child endangerment and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
