Six-time All-Star Anthony Davis is in the midst of finalizing a five-year, $190 million USD max contract to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers. News of this deal emerges hot off the heels of LeBron James — the reigning 2019-2020 NBA Finals MVP and NBA assists leader — inking an $85 million USD contract extension to remain in LA.
Davis is currently 27 years old, and this signing is reflective of the Lakers‘ desires of betting on the two-way forward to be a centerpiece for their franchise in the near future, especially given that his co-captain LeBron James is closer to the end of his career than he was to the beginning.
On November 15th, “The Brow” declined his $28.7 million player option and became an unrestricted free agent, but hopes were high that he would be returning to the purple and gold. Over the course of 28 games played down in the Orlando bubble, the versatile big man was simply a force to be reckoned with. Davis tallied up averages of 26.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, and served as a vital contributor for the Lakers, helping them add even more Larry O’ Brien hardware to the franchise’s trophy case.
