When your phone is crawling towards those single-digit percentage numbers, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and frightened. What if you lose battery?
What if you’re stranded on your way to meeting friends? What if you miss a Facebook notification?
Flemish government minister Patricia Ceysens has solved this problem.
Recently, Ceysens founded WeWATT, a program that creates bikes called WeBikes that generate their own energy to charge batteries on our electronic devices.
They’re for those of us who feel like we’ve become too lazy and too reliant on our technology. In order to charge our beloved, addictive phones, these WeBikes require that we sweat a little.
The WeBikes are stationary and currently only found in public places like airports and libraries.
Soon, they’ll be installed in offices. After 30 minutes of bicycling, even at a “gentle pace,” your WeBike generates enough energy to fully charge your iPhone.
On July 16, the first WeBikes were shipped to Boston University, but there’s no word on exactly when they’ll be installed around campus. Hopefully soon, though.
This is a great way to ease anxiety about a dropping battery and get in a workout.
