A local rapper connected to Mac Miller and T.I. was found not guilty this morning on drug charges.
Joseph Barnett, who performs as “Hardo,” appeared before Common Pleas Judge Randal B. Todd for a nonjury trial on charges of possession with intent to deliver and resisting arrest.
Police said Mr. Barnett, 22, of Wilkinsburg, ran a stop sign in Wilkinsburg about 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 30. When he was pulled over, they said, he admitted to not having a valid driver’s license.
A subsequent search of his vehicle resulted in officers finding about 250 individual stamp bags of heroin in a closed bag under the driver’s seat.
However, defense attorney Owen Seman said his client had borrowed a friend’s car and had no knowledge of the drugs. Officers found no other indications of drug use or sales — including cash or a cell phone.
Further, Mr. Seman said, his client cooperated with investigators, providing DNA and fingerprints — neither of which were found to match evidence found on the bag.
Mr. Barnett was found guilty, though, on summary traffic counts, including driving on a suspended license. He has been at the Allegheny County Jail since his arrest, Mr. Seman said, and he expects his client will be released soon.
