A second gunman has been charged with the Feb. 22 murder of Chicago cab driver Javan Boyd, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Courtney Ealy, 19, is facing a charge of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Boyd, police said. Ealy, a rapper who goes by Cdai, had been released from jail on a robbery probation violation just two weeks before the shooting, and was ordered held without bail on Wednesday in a hearing in Cook County Violence Court.

17-year-old Clint Massey, a Chicago rapper who performs as “RondoNumbaNine,” was charged a week ago in connection with the murder of Boyd and was ordered held on $2M bond, according to court records.

On the day of the shooting, the 28-year-old cab driver was sitting in his car about 4 a.m. waiting for a passenger, according to police.

Three cars drove past, with Ealy and Massey riding in the first car. The vehicle made a U-turn and pulled up next to Boyd’s car, prosecutors said today. The teens approached the passenger side of Boyd’s car and asked him if he was from the neighborhood.

When Boyd replied that he was, the teens opened the passenger-side door of the cab and opened fire on Boyd, hitting him seven times, prosecutors said. Ealy and Massey got back in their car and all three cars sped away from the scene.

Ealy dropped his cell phone outside Boyd’s car, and prosecutors were able to match a fingerprint from the phone to a print found in the cab. Prosecutors said last week that one of Massey’s prints was found on the car.

Officials believe the killing was done in retaliation for an earlier altercation, but didn’t go into specifics.

Both Massey and Ealy have been linked to the 600 set of the Black Disciples.
