In 1964, the American south declared that all US citizens who couldn’t prove they passed the fifth grade had to take a test to remain eligible to vote.

The idea was to prevent black people from voting and thus maintain the power of racist officials.

A failing grade was given to anyone who couldn’t answer all 30 questions correctly in 10 minutes.

Harvard tutor and law school fellow Carl Miller had some of his students take the test to show how impossible it was to pass.
