Adam Wingard is responsible for some of the best suspense and horror films of our generation. In the past, he directed segments of V/H/S and its sequel, V/H/S 2, and 2014′s The Guest is essential viewing for any modern thriller fan. The fact that we don’t know much at all about Wingard’s latest film, The Woods, is itself an extension of the director’s carefully-crafted aesthetic. The film’s IMDb description tersely reads:
“A group of college students on a camping trip discover they are not alone.”
The film’s incredibly restrained teaser trailer is a rare example of promo that gives little to nothing of the film’s content away. Set to a haunting cover of The Police’s stalker anthem “Every Breath You Take,” all we know is that the film is set in the woods and that critics find it absolutely terrifying.
