Being gay in Nigeria is now a crime. Under new laws, gay couples showing public affection can be imprisoned for up to 10 years. The measures, passed into law by the Nigerian House of Representatives, essentially bans the organization of gay rights groups and the possibility of gay marriage.
Following the legislation, the UK threatened to cease all aid given to any country unsupportive of gay rights, but unfortunately, their aid is fairly meager as it is.
In addition, if anyone does try to marry a homosexual couple, the couple will receive 14 years and the person overseeing the marriage will get 10.
Uganda passed a similar but harsher bill in November, threatening homosexuals will the death penalty if caught.
