Lacey Holsworth, the eight-year-old Michigan State super fan who was often seen supporting her “Superman” Adreian Payne, lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday night according to the Detroit Free-Press.
Early on Wednesday morning, Lacey Holsworth’s official Instagram account posted a picture indicating that Lacey, who was in a continuing battle with neuroblastoma, achieved the ultimate victory.
Holsworth became a national media sensation thanks to her close connection with Michigan State forward Adreian Payne. The two met when the Spartans team visited Sparrow Hospital in Lansing over a year ago, and Payne took it upon himself to make sure he would always be there for Holsworth and her family, and in turn, Lacey was often seen supporting her “Superman” at Spartan games.
When the Michigan State held their Senior Night, Payne had Holsworth escort him out on the court.
When Michigan State won the Big Ten Tournament championship, Holsworth was there to cut down a part of the net.
Despite suffering a seizure last week Holsworth and her family were able to make it to New York City to see the Spartan in the Elite Eight and Sweet 16, and even attended the College Slam Dunk Contest in North Texas this past week in which Payne participated in.
