Thursday, June 20, 2013, approximately 10:30 am. That is the time at which it was announced that Instagram will now add a video features to its image capturing app and, apparently, it’s the beginning of Vine’s slow and painful death.
Speaking at a press conference at Facebook headquarters in California, Mark Zuckberg was more than pleased to announce the company’s move, which will allow Instagram users to capture footage for 15 seconds, as opposed to the six-second limit that Vine imposed, while users will also have 13 video filters at their disposal.
The announcement will come as a big blow to Twitter, which has dominated Facebook as the premier social networking site for the last couple of years and also owns Vine. Users of the app that dominated the mobile video sharing game for the past few months are now expected to begin deleting their profiles immediately. That is, right before they put together their ‘first instagram video’ post.
Vine has been enjoying a busy month, having become available for Android phones after announcing that the app had around 13 million users.
But now they will have their work cut off for them with that number set to decrease significantly, while social media users who have yet to test the Vine waters may just see it fit to stick with Instagram, using their new feature instead of creating another account for a different app.
