UCLA has offered an athletic scholarship to a Cordell Broadus, a rising high school sophomore who has played one season of high school football whose father happens to be Snoop Dogg.

Broadus was a standout player this year, according to high school coach Ryan Maine.

“We’re expecting him to really lead us the next three years,” Maine told ESPN.

Jim L. Mora, head coach of the UCLA Bruins, was the first coach to offer Broadus an athletic scholarship.

If Broadus accepts, he will join rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs’ son Justin, who was offered a merit scholarship, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The offer makes critics wonder whether UCLA offered Broadus a scholarship not for his athletic ability but rather to bolster UCLA’s public image as a hub for pop culture. Securing a commitment from Snoop Dogg’s son may jolt back to life UCLA’s faltering football program, according to Prep Rally.

Justin Comb’s acceptance of his UCLA scholarship did not go without its own controversy. Critics faulted him for taking the scholarship money despite his father’s estimated net worth of about $500 million.
