For the many viewers who suspect that it was Beyoncé’s theatrics that caused last night’s power outage, New Orleans’ energy supplier has just about confirmed the certainty of this theory.
The aforementioned suspicion is only natural, considering how many lights and computer generated effects were utilized in the half time show, and the timing of the outage, just a minute and a half into the next quarter.
A spokesperson for Entergy New Orleans, the company that oversaw the use of electricity in the game said that the outage was caused by an equipment failure due to a lack of available electricity following halftime. Police said that the amount of electricity that was used in the stage show caused a surge, proven by the smell of gas throughout the arena.
Entergy New Orleans also stated that the problem could be rooted back to the spot in which Entergy feeds electricity into the stadium’s power lines.
“A piece of equipment that is designed to monitor electrical load sensed an abnormality in the system,” the statement said. “Once the issue was detected, the sensing equipment operated as designed and opened a breaker, causing power to be partially cut to the Superdome in order to isolate the issue. … Entergy and SMG will continue to investigate the root cause of the abnormality.”
All this from a half time show that wasn’t even that good. Whoever decided to use that much power should be fired, along with whoever did Beyoncé’s makeup.
