A dead megamouth shark washed up on a beach in the Philippines on Wednesday, an incredibly rare find considering fewer than 70 have ever been seen.
The 15-foot male fish was spotted by fishermen in the Burias Pass, NBC News reports, which sits in-between the central provinces of Albay and Masbate.
Megamouths were first discovered in 1976 when one of them got caught in the anchor of a US Navy ship off the coast of Hawaii, according to the Independent.
Others have since been found on the shores of the Philippines, Japan and Taiwan.
The last one to be recovered washed up in the Philippines in 2009 only to be eaten by locals, reports the Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines.
