With recent performances in small character-driven films (Prisoners, Enemy and last year’s Nightcrawler), Jake Gyllenhaal has emerged as one of the most accomplished dramatic actors working in Hollywood today. His latest project takes the form Southpaw, in which Gyllenhaal portrays Billy “The Great” Hope, a Junior Middleweight Boxing champ whose life spirals out of control in the wake of family tragedy. Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and co-written by Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy), the film also features Forest Whitaker, Rachel McAdams, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Rita Ora.
