Proving to be just as white hot as it looks, the white iPad mini version sold out within 20 minutes of its U.S. pre-order release on Friday.

Now pushed back two weeks from its in-store launch and pre-order delivery date of November 2, the black versions remain the only ones available for immediately order.

Both 7.9 inches in size, scaled down from the original iPad 9.7 inch size, the sole difference between the latest versions is their colour.

In question by both consumers and experts, however, is the actual supply versus demand of the iPad minis.

It’s been noted that countries outside the U.S. promptly listed a ’2 week delivery’ time on the white versions the moment they went on sale, MacRumors reports.

In the U.K. where the white version sold out in hours’ time, Stuart Miles of gadget website Pocket Lint, based outside London, shared in on the theory.

‘It was very quick. They are launching it around the world so are restricting stock, or it really is that popular,’ he said.

An expected big ticket item for the holidays, analysts are also expecting the iPad Mini will sell out.

Experts say Apple will carry a sizable stock of iPad minis in their stores though the lines are expected to wrap, with some eager customers camping over night as seen at previous launches.

‘I would expect Apple will have plenty stock in stores and Apple prefers people to visit stores, to sell them extras,’ said Mr Miles.

Giving an idea of the forecast, Techradar.com says they expect Apple to share pre-order numbers with the public on Monday, chiming that they do, ’at least when business is good.’
