Linebacker Rolando McClain’s NFL career is over at the age of 23.The Baltimore Ravens placed the troubled former first-round draft pick on the reserve/retired list Wednesday, about a month after he signed a one-year contract with the team on April 12.
“Rolando let me know that he plans to retire from the NFL,” Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said.
After signing with the Ravens, McClain was arrested 10 days later in Decatur, Ala., and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He faces a July 9 court date on those charges.
McClain’s past legal troubles include a December 2011 arrest on a third-degree assault charge and an arrest for a window tint violation on his vehicle this past January.
The eighth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by Oakland, McClain played in 41 games during his brief three-year career and had 274 tackles, 6.5 sacks, one interception and one forced fumble for the Raiders.
With McClain out of the picture as inside linebacker, the Ravens are left with 2013 second-round draft pick Arthur Brown, Jameel McClain, Josh Bynes and Albert McClellan.
