Double amputee, Oscar Pistorius, of South Africa, also known as ‘Bladerunner’, is going to realize his dream and compete in the London Olympics against able body athletes on the South African 1600 meter relay team. Pistorius had a birth defect and his legs were amputated at 11 months old, but that didn’t stop him. He never used his disability as an excuse, as a matter of fact he is offended if anyone calls him disabled. He has dominated the Paralympics, and he had to fight to even get the chance to compete against able body athletes. At first the IAAF, ruled that his blades gave him an unfair advantage, which was ridiculous. But eventually the prosthetic makers and doctors united to show that even if it was an advantage it couldn’t possibly make up for the disadvantage of having no legs. This is an inspirational story for all of us. Whenever you think that you can’t do something, think about Oscar. His story shows that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Who would have thought a man with no legs could be a great runner?
