When you make it to the state semifinals, every team is good. Head Coach Andrew Erby and Steel-High knew nothing would come easy against powerhouse Bishop Guilfoyle on Saturday afternoon.
The Marauders, out of District 6, made the trek to Steamroller-country for a low scoring affair. The Marauders forced 4 first half turnovers by the Steam Rollers. Steelton’s defense was able to hold Bishop Guilfoyle to only 7 points in the first half.
Mehki Flowers found a way to showcase why he is one of the best talents in the country, turning a short screen pass into a long touchdown for the Rollers.
Trailing Bishop Guilfoyle 14-13, Bryan Hernandez kicked a 34-yard field goal to put Steel-High ahead, 16-14, with 38 seconds left in the game. Steel-High wins the state semifinal showdown, 16-14, advancing to the 1A state championship where they’ll play Jeannette on Friday.
