After being chosen to headline Harvard’s “Yardfest” performance, Tyga didn’t exactly receive a warm welcome. A group of students petitioned the act, claiming Tyga promotes sexism and rape culture. Tyga addressed the criticism before his performance on Saturday, and stood by everyone’s right to free speech.

“This is just a group. This isn’t the whole student union,” said Tyga. “The people that booked me to come to their show, they’re fans. They want me to perform at their school. There’s always going to be wars of anything. At the end of the day, people have the right to have opinions. I have the right to have an opinion. I have the right to say what I want on my music, because it’s my music.”

Despite announcing an alternative concert for the angry contingency, many student attended Tyga’s performance and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tyga even sent out a message during Saturday night’s performance to the people who didn’t want him to perform: “I just want to say, f*** the haters.”
