Prior to Kanye West’s largest anticipated Sunday Service at Lakewood Church, with an expected attendance of 45,000 people, the rapper stopped by the Harris County Jail in Houston for a surprise concert.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Ye and his choir arrived at the facility on Friday morning and held an intimate concert for nearly 200 people in the men’s jail. Then, the team went through the facility’s underground tunnel to perform a second show at the women’s jail.
The video above posted by the Harris County Sherriff’s Office shows Kanye meeting some of the inmates and staff, followed by a performance featuring songs from his recent Jesus Is King album. And in case anyone had any misconceptions about his appearance, he emphasizes that “this is a mission, not a show.”
@kanyewest visited us today. I know he has a busy weekend in H-Town surrounding his visit to @lakewoodchurch, so appreciate him and his choir spending time with us. #HouNews pic.twitter.com/3e5s92WYY1
